My first knitting blog!

Knitting adventure #1

Piggy, Piggy, Piglet

Materials:

Pink Yarn

Assorted colors of felt

Fabric glue

Stuffing (batting)

Scrap wire

Size 9 double pointed needles (4)

Tapestry needle

Body:

C/O 29 sts and divide as evenly as possible between 3 needles. Join in round and continue in stockinette until piece measures 5 inches.

Begin decrease:
K3, K2tog until end of round.
Knit one round.
K2, K2tog until end of round.
Knit one round.
Keep doing this decrease in decending order until you are left with about 6 stitches then cut yarn with 6in tail and thread through with tapestry needle and weave end.

Head:

C/O 29 sts divide evenly between 3 needles. Join in round and continue in stockinette until piece measures 3 in.

Begin decrease:
K3, K2tog until end of round.
Knit one round.
K2, K2tog until end of round.
Knit one round.
Keep doing this decrease in descending order until you are left with about 6 stitches then cut yarn with 6in tail and thread through with tapestry needle and weave end.

You should end up with something that looks like this.

Filling:

Stuff both these suckers pretty firmly with some soft plushy stuffing (you can find this a Michael's or Walmart). Then with a tapestry needle take the tail from the cast on side and create a running stitch through the cast on edge sewing it shut and weaving in the ends.

Legs:

C/O 9 sts and join in round. Work in stockinette until leg measures 1.25".

Decrease:

K1, K2tog until end of round.
Knit one round.
K2tog until end of round.
Cast off.

Repeat three more times for all legs. Then stuff all firmly.

Tail:

With two double pointed needles, create i-cord, c/o 3 stitches. Continue until length desired is reached, cast off. Run a small piece of wire through tail and twist to create curly tail. Sew on to back of piglet.

Ears:

With two double pointed needles c/o 4 sts.
Work in stockinette stitch for three rows.
Dec 1st each side of next 2 rows.
Cast off when you are left with two stitches.

Repeat once more for the other ear.
Snout:

C/O 16 sts on double pointed needles. Work 5 rounds and cast off.

With two double pointed needles c/o 6 sts work in stockinette for 8 rounds cast off.

Now you are left with the circular snout piece and a flat piece. Take the flat piece and put it against the circular snout and with a tapestry needle and scrap yarn sew all along edge of snout to attach flat piece. Weave in ends.

Firmly stuff this piece and sew it on to the piglet's face (more towards the bottom half).

Finishing:

With tapestry needle and scrap yarn connect piglet head to body straight on so it is firmly secure. Weave in ends.

To connect legs, sew onto bottom of body, for back two legs, sew on with 1.5" between them.
For front two legs sew them to body with little or no space between so that the piglet will be able to stand on them.

Sew ears on top of head wherever desired.

To create eyes just use felt and make different sized half moons and with fabric glue, glue to face.

Feel free to make your piglet other cute accessories!
